What happened

Nvidia is reportedly testing lower-memory configurations of its next-generation Rubin Ultra accelerator — designs as small as 192GB (stepping back to 8-Hi HBM4) versus the 288GB on the current Vera Rubin, a 33% cut — per an August 4 TrendForce report. Driven by tight HBM wafer allocation across SK Hynix, Samsung and Micron, the same three suppliers this thread already tracks on the supply side. A lower-memory Rubin Ultra means buyers need more GPUs for the same workload — more power, rack space and interconnect cost — the first entry on this thread showing the squeeze reaching into Nvidia's own next-gen chip spec, not just consumer-hardware pricing or supplier capacity plans.
