Anthropic is in early talks to lease up to 1GW of compute capacity directly from Stream Data Centers, the developer majority-owned by Apollo Global Management, The Information reported Tuesday (09-22) — a deal data-center developers say would require at least $40 billion in capital investment and would make Anthropic a direct tenant rather than a cloud-provider customer. The site would run TPUs designed by Google and Broadcom (Nvidia GPUs are also possible), with Google potentially providing a credit guarantee on unclear terms; capacity and deal structure remain under negotiation. This would extend Anthropic's hardware diversification beyond its existing $100bn/10-year, up-to-5GW AWS commitment and its up-to-2GW AMD Instinct MI450 deal — Anthropic co-founder and chief compute officer Tom Brown said in July that "running across a diversified range of hardware lets us map the right workloads to the right hardware."
