Amazon locks in up to $8bn of Generac backup generators through 2033

2026-09-16 · part of AWS Capex

What happened

Amazon signed a long-term generator-supply agreement with Generac, disclosed in a Generac 8-K filed 2026-09-16: $2.4 billion of deliveries scheduled across 2027 and 2028, with total purchases through 2033 potentially reaching $8 billion, plus a warrant granting Amazon up to 1.69 million Generac shares. The warrant is the part worth noting — Amazon is taking equity in its own supplier rather than simply buying the hardware, the same vendor-entanglement pattern this map tracks on the chip side. Backup generation on this scale is a statement about how fast AWS expects to energise capacity it cannot get firm grid power for. (SEC Form 8-K, primary, Motley Fool)

Credibility ratings combine two public datasets: Lin et al. 2023, PNAS Nexus 2(9):pgad286 (CC BY 4.0) for the domain-quality score, and Wikipedia's perennial-sources list (CC BY-SA 4.0) for the reliability tier. A rating describes an outlet's general record, never this particular article. Unrated means absent from those datasets — not a judgement.
