OpenAI details its community commitments at the county's State of the County luncheon

2026-10-01 · part of Camellia

What happened

OpenAI's Hank Evans told the Effingham County Chamber's 10-01 luncheon that Camellia would let Georgia Power cut its power use by up to one-third with 60 minutes' notice, recycle cooling water in a closed system, and create at least 400 full-time operational jobs Evans also said OpenAI has canvassed more than 1,100 neighbouring homes and drawn more than 100 feedback submissions, and County Manager Tim Callanan, urging a Nov. 3 vote to renew the $200 million SPLOST sales tax, said not passing it "will actually be a very large tax break to our friends at OpenAI." Credibility ratings combine two public datasets: Lin et al. 2023, PNAS Nexus 2(9):pgad286 (CC BY 4.0) for the domain-quality score, and Wikipedia's perennial-sources list (CC BY-SA 4.0) for the reliability tier. A rating describes an outlet's general record, never this particular article. Unrated means absent from those datasets — not a judgement.
