What happened

Alberta regulators approved a 932MW gas plant whose sole customer is Meta, behind the meter for Meta's first Canadian data centre (08-02). The first extension of the gas pivot beyond the US — it is no longer a Louisiana/Entergy story.
On the question this thread exists to answer — does any other hyperscaler follow Meta out of RE100 — the answer is still no. Google, Microsoft and Apple all remain members as of 2026-08-18. Microsoft is moving in a different direction entirely, toward hourly rather than annual clean-energy matching, which is a tightening rather than an exit. Meta remains alone in the defection.
Louisiana's fight escalated without resolving: advocacy groups challenged Entergy's gas buildout for Meta (08-03) and regulators withheld Meta's Louisiana job-count figures amid the dispute (08-12) — a transparency fight now running alongside the emissions one.
A direct hit on the bridge-versus-base question: a research firm warned natural-gas prices could triple (08-14), which would undercut the cheap-bridge-fuel logic the whole pivot rests on. If gas stops being cheap, a 7.5GW buildout is a base-load commitment made on a bridge's economics.
⚠️ Trap caught: Chevron–Microsoft's 20-year West Texas gas deal, recirculating in "hyperscalers all doing gas now" trend pieces this window, was signed 2026-06-22 — before the window. Not evidence of a follow.
