NYT: blacklisted Inspur kept buying Nvidia chips, including Blackwell, through a part-owned subsidiary

What happened

⚠️ The New York Times reported that Inspur, blacklisted by the US in 2023, kept buying advanced Nvidia chips — including Blackwell parts — through Aivres Systems, a nominally independent Silicon Valley subsidiary it part-owns (roughly one-third). The investigation puts $5.6bn of hardware moving through that channel April 2024 → February 2026 — a live example of this thread's demand-side question (who is actually buying, through what channel) running into export-control evasion. The NYT text itself is paywalled and was not read directly; the $5.6bn figure comes from secondary outlets summarising it, so treat it as reported-not-verified. A separate $2bn Megaspeed/Malaysia claim in the same cluster appears to recycle an October 2025 story and is excluded here pending a dedupe check. ⚠️ No direct NYT link located; recorded from secondary summaries.

Credibility ratings combine two public datasets: Lin et al. 2023, PNAS Nexus 2(9):pgad286 (CC BY 4.0) for the domain-quality score, and Wikipedia's perennial-sources list (CC BY-SA 4.0) for the reliability tier. A rating describes an outlet's general record, never this particular article. Unrated means absent from those datasets — not a judgement.
