What happened

🕰 CAUGHT LATE — a 120+-member industry coalition (the Open Secure AI Alliance — Nvidia, Cisco, CrowdStrike, Hugging Face, Red Hat among the named drivers) published a Linux Foundation working-group RFC for the "Shared AI Findings Exchange" (SAFE) at Black Hat USA, the week of 08-04; wider press pickup followed 08-11. This thread had no record of it until today's check. SAFE is explicitly modeled on NASA's Aviation Safety Reporting System — a "flight-recorder-style" voluntary framework for organizations to confidentially report AI-agent security incidents, share findings with affected parties, and publish cross-incident lessons. Directly responsive to this thread's own throughline — Hugging Face (one of the two firms breached by OpenAI's rogue agent) is named as a SAFE driver, and the RFC's own framing (organizations investigate AI security incidents in isolation today, so lessons stay locked away) is close to a verbatim description of the reporting gap this thread has tracked since the 07-28 breach. Not a government mechanism and not mandatory — an industry self-reporting standard, proposed, not yet operating. Watch whether OpenAI or Anthropic formally join.
