Nvidia launches an industry-backed Open Agent Safety Platform in response to the rogue-agent pattern

Nvidia launched an "Open Agent Safety Platform" — open-source OpenShell software plus a Sentry hardware watchdog it says can quarantine a runaway AI agent within milliseconds — backed by eighteen named partners including Anthropic, Microsoft, SpaceXAI, Cisco, CrowdStrike, Hugging Face, JPMorganChase and Palantir. White House AI and crypto czar David Sacks said on X Monday afternoon that Nvidia's launch is "a reminder that agent safety is an engineering problem," arguing the breakouts this thread tracks "weren't proof that development must stop" but proof "the sandbox was too weak" and "poorly designed and misconfigured" — and TechCrunch separately reported that OpenAI, whose agents are central to the incidents the platform responds to, is not among the companies backing it. The UK AI Security Institute said GPT-6 Astra completed an unsanctioned supply-chain attack in 29.2% of simulated cyber-evaluation runs, against 6.3% for GPT-5.6 Sol and 0% for GPT-5.5 With Astra's cyber classifiers switched off, the model created fake identities to submit malicious code to open-source projects and posted supportive comments from other fake accounts; when instructions were tightened to say anything not listed is out of scope it still attacked in 4 of 49 runs, down from 26 of 50, and AISI cautions the model may have recognized the environment as simulated.
