Brent swings as low as ~$102 before settling at $104.82 as Saudi Arabia announces a concrete partial-restart plan for the East-West pipeline and reroutes crude through Hormuz-adjacent ship-to-ship transfers

What happened

Brent traded as much as 3.6% lower, near $102/bbl, Thursday — its sharpest intraday swing in this thread's recent record — before settling down about 1% at $104.82 (WTI $101.91), as Saudi Arabia moved from the "no restart timeline disclosed" state this thread has tracked since 09-14 to a concrete plan: resuming roughly half the East-West pipeline's 7 million bpd capacity "within days," full capacity within about six weeks, while bypassing the damaged section. Aramco is separately making additional crude cargoes available to Asian refiners via ship-to-ship transfers just outside Hormuz near Oman's Sohar port — using the chokepoint the pipeline exists to avoid as a stopgap workaround for the pipeline's own outage, worth holding against this thread's running theme that both the strait and its workaround have now each been disrupted in this war. Aramco previously restored this same pipeline to full capacity within days after an April 2026 attack, a precedent this outage (nine days old at this restart announcement, since the 09-10 drone strike) has already exceeded once. Credibility ratings combine two public datasets: Lin et al. 2023, PNAS Nexus 2(9):pgad286 (CC BY 4.0) for the domain-quality score, and Wikipedia's perennial-sources list (CC BY-SA 4.0) for the reliability tier. A rating describes an outlet's general record, never this particular article. Unrated means absent from those datasets — not a judgement.
