August revenue breaks NT$500B for the first time, up 53% YoY, on AI-chip demand

2026-09-10 · part of TSMC Capacity Race

What happened

TSMC reported August 2026 monthly revenue of NT$514.81B (~$16.3B), up 53.3% year-over-year and 10.1% month-over-month — the first time TSMC has broken the NT$500B barrier in a single month, and its fourth consecutive month of revenue growth. Year-to-date (January-August) consolidated revenue is NT$3,386.87B, up 39.3% over the same period in 2025. Coverage attributes the surge to AI-server-chip demand keeping TSMC's 5nm, 4nm and 3nm nodes at full capacity. This is a hard revenue number behind the capacity-race narrative this thread otherwise tracks through capex and toolmaker commitments (the 09-08 ASML/High-NA entry, the 08-11 board capex approval) — demand is still outrunning the capacity being added, not absorbing into slack. Credibility ratings combine two public datasets: Lin et al. 2023, PNAS Nexus 2(9):pgad286 (CC BY 4.0) for the domain-quality score, and Wikipedia's perennial-sources list (CC BY-SA 4.0) for the reliability tier. A rating describes an outlet's general record, never this particular article. Unrated means absent from those datasets — not a judgement.
