Homegrown DUV

Whether China's first mass-produced immersion DUV tool is real at manufacturing scale, or an announcement. Reuters (07-28) names Shanghai Aishengna (state-owned) as the maker: ~5 units in 2026, ~20 in 2027, with SMIC, Hua Hong and CXMT the expected first recipients — explicitly "far from matching" ASML and unproven at high-volume manufacturing. THE TEST IS DELIVERY, NOT PRODUCTION: a tool installed and running at a named fab, at a stated node and yield. Track the unit count against the 2026 target, which fabs actually receive them, any yield/uptime disclosure, ASML's order book and guidance for China, and whether export-control policy re-prices on it. A slip here is as informative as a hit — this is the load-bearing assumption under the whole chokepoint picture. ADDENDUM 2026-08-18 (cold rotation): 21 days on, the delivery test is STILL UNMET — no confirmation from Aishengna or from SMIC/Hua Hong/CXMT of an installed running tool at any node with any yield figure. HARD QUALIFIER now on record: the tools support 28nm-class SINGLE-EXPOSURE patterning only, advanced nodes need multi-patterning, some critical components still internationally sourced. ASML fell up to 14% on the 07-27/28 report, then RAISED its own 2026 guidance to EUR36-40B with DUV immersion shipments ~130 systems and an order book "largely filled through 2027" — the market repriced, the company did not. No export-control change tied to this. NAMING: "Shanghai Yuliansheng"/"Yuliangsheng" is a PREDECESSOR team absorbed into Aishengna (alongside SMEE), not a rival programme — do not double-count.

Summary

China began mass-producing a homegrown immersion DUV lithography tool, with state-owned Shanghai Aishengna set to ship about five units in 2026.

Whether Shanghai Aishengna can actually deliver these tools at real production volume rather than just announce them.

2026-09-01 — UBS estimates China needs 2-5 years for immersion-DUV high-volume manufacturing, a decade-plus for any EUV alternative

2026-08-29 — Goldman puts a number on the gap this thread exists to test, and names lithography as the reason it doesn’t close faster

2026-08-18 — Three weeks on, still nobody has confirmed a delivered tool

Logged 2026-08-18. This thread’s own test is DELIVERY, NOT PRODUCTION — “a tool installed and running at a named fab, at a stated node and yield.” That test is still unmet, and the non-result is the finding.
